There is a lot of online discourse about this entire series so I knew it was about time I finally started reading them, and I wish I had earlier to tell you the truth. The Inheritance Games is the first of soon to be four books that tell the story of Avery Kylie Grambs and the Hawthorne brothers, all in line to receive something from the will of recently deceased billionaire Tobias Hawthorne. Avery has no idea who Tobias is, though.

When she arrives at the Hawthorne estate along with her suspicious sister, Avery finds out that she has been left pretty much everything that Tobias owned, which lands her in hot water with the surviving family, none of which she knows, none of which know her.

I had a feeling I’d like this one even before I picked it up; there is nothing I love more than a cliche mystery with a main character who has a somewhat traumatic background that nobody else knows about. I eat it up every time so this one, of course, was no different!

This being said, however, I think the whole Emily thing was a bit too particular and finnicky, and there could have been something else that linked Avery to the family, not just plain and simple, pure coincidence. It could have been literally anything under the sun, but this was how we got there? Alright then.

Of course I’m looking forward to reading the next few installments, and might have to have a little late new year Waterstones trip for the next one (or two).

All the love,

Jade x
