254. Must Love Books (February 2023) by Shauna Robinson

“When Nora landed an editorial assistant position at Parsons Press, it was her first step towards The Dream Job. Because, honestly, is there anything dreamier than making books for a living? But after five years of lunch orders, finicky authors, and per my last emails, Nora has come to one grand conclusion: Dream Jobs do not exist. With her life spiraling and the Parsons staff sinking, Nora gets hit with even worse news. Parsons is cutting her already unlivable salary. Unable to afford her rent and without even the novels she once loved as a comfort, Nora decides to moonlight for a rival publisher to make ends meet…and maybe poach some Parsons’ authors along the way. But when Andrew Santos, a bestselling Parsons author no one can afford to lose is thrown into the mix, Nora has to decide where her loyalties lie. Her new Dream Job, ever-optimistic Andrew, or…herself and her future.”

Trigger Warning: suicidal ideation, mental illness, racism, panic attack/disorder

Must Love Books tells the story of Nora Hughes as she moves through her life, facing issues with her mental health, happiness, as well as everything that comes along with being a young woman who just doesn’t know where she’s going in life.

Nora thinks she has secured her dream job in the publishing world, but when it she finds that it is nothing like she thought, she takes it upon herself to find another one where she actually enjoys what she does, and of course, things go any which way but the one she planned.

I completely forgot about the fact that this book would have a romance aspect. I’m not one who enjoys romance a whole lot, but this book held a nice balance between this and its other elements. We see Nora live her life between these two jobs; neither of which are great, as well as her developing a relationship with author Andrew Santos, and also working on herself, which is much needed in anyone’s life.

I was interested in requesting this book as I am and always have been interested in the world of publishing and having a look behind the scenes. Of course it isn’t all that great, and its fun seeing a publisher actually be on board with producing such a somewhat exposing tale about their industry.

Well written and with a main character easy to empathise with, Must Love Books is perfect for just that, those who love books.

Thank you to Harper Collins, One More Chapter for the ARC!

All the love,
